The Decade for the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence (2001-2010)
On November 10th 1998, and on the request of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the UN General Assembly adopted unanimously a resolution declaring the years 2001-2010 « International Decade for the Promotion of a Culture of peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World » (Resolution A/RES/53/25 of the United Nations declaring the Decade, November 10th 1998). The UNESCO, declared leader of this Decade within the UN system in November 2000, has been in charge of promoting and coordinating the actions taking place within the framework of this Decade. Several national coalitions of NGOs that have been created since 2000 develop and encourage the action of civil society in favor of this Decade.
The French Coalition presides the International Coalition for the Decade.

Campaign for non-violence and peace education at school
The French Coalition for the Decade launched a campaign for non-violence and peace education at school, in the framework of the implementation of the UN resolution. This campaign asks for:
The official introduction of non-violence and peace education at all levels of the french educational system. Then it demands to establish a program including specific schedules for this subject and reaching progress with the help of tools and teaching methods.
The integration of that subject in formation schedules for teachers.
The access for all adults to a formation in conflicts resolution.
Program for non-violence and peace education
The French Coalition for the Decade wrote a Program for non-violence and peace education and published it in November 2005. This program of 50 pages is a concrete proposition to enable the introduction of non-violence and peace education in the french educational system.
