The 3rd International Salon for Peace Initiatives is organized in the framework of the "International Decade for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) " declared by the UN in 1998.
Organized by the French Coalition for the Decade, it will take place in Paris on 30, 31 May and 1st June 2008, in the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, in the Centre des Congrès and in the Espace Condorcet.

This Salon will help a wide public to get familiar with the culture of peace and non-violence. French and international exhibitors will present their peace and non-violence intitiatives and several activities will be proposed.
Several organizations will be partners of this Salon in order to enrich the culture of peace and non-violence and to highlight its numerous dimensions: justice, non-violent resolution of conflicts, mediation, human rights defense, environmental respect and development, disarmament, gender equality, etc.
This Salon will host the second International Conference on the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, organized by the French Coalition for the Decade in collaboration with the International Coalition for the Decade. This Conference will create a space for thinking and meeting for all those involved in this field, in France and all over the world.

The 3rd Salon is a continuation of the 1st Salon (2004) and the 2nd Salon (2006), organized by the French Coalition for the Decade, in the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris. These editions were placed under the auspices of the UNESCO and supported by the CCFD (Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement), Non Violence XXI, Partage and the Secours Catholique-Caritas France, partners, and Pax Christi France, support. These editions have achieved a great success, with more than 10 000 visitors during the 1st Salon and almost 13 000 participants during the 2nd Salon (cf. Dossier de synthèse 2e Salon international des Initiatives de Paix - Mars 2007).

The Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence (2001-2010)

On November 10th 1998, on the request of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the UN General Assembly adopted unanimously a resolution declaring the years 2001-2010 "International Decade for the Promotion of a Culture of peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World" (Resolution A/RES/53/25 of the United Nations declaring the Decade, November 10th 1998). The UNESCO, declared leader of this Decade within the UN system in November 2000, has been in charge of promoting and coordinating the actions taking place within the framework of this Decade. Several national coalitions of NGOs that have been created since 2000 develop and encourage the action of civil society in favor of this Decade.
