International Coalition for the Decade


The International Coalition for the Decade for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) was launched after some meetings, gathering international organizations and national coalitions. During the meeting held on February the 20th 2003, statutes were adopted. On June 2nd 2003, the decision was made to create the International Coalition. The association obtained a full legal recognition on August 2nd, in the Journal Officiel .

The aims of the International Coalition are:
  • To co-ordinate its members’ actions by the gathering of resources and information, the sharing of experiences and dialogue, particularly about education for peace and non-violence.
  • To represent its member coalitions on the international level and act as a supporting and advisory body for the creation of new national coalitions in countries where they do not yet exist.
  • To co-ordinate international campaigns or actions upon themes of the Decade. Such actions could be supported by those national coalitions, which are not yet able to lead them by themselves.
  • To Constitute a point of reference reference for every action of international solidarity linked with peace and non-violence.
Projects:

The international coalition has initiated several projects, led by working groups, about an international Convention ending the decade, an artistic and mediatic travelling event, and the education to peace and non-violence at an international scale. The International coalition has also participated to the European Social Forum of Saint-Denis (November 2003), with two workshops, dedicated to the culture of non-violence and peace, and education to non-violence.
